About our internship program.
All departments at WP Engine offer 10-week internships, where interns will be embedded into teams and work on real world problems with some of the brightest people in the tech industry.
Interns can expect 1:1 mentorship with some of our very best thinkers at WP Engine, support from leadership, and access to the WP Engine Community. Interns can also expect to be tackling real world problems within weeks of starting.
While work can be challenging, there will be scheduled fun with access to WP Engine perks in the office, activities outside of work and chances to network with fellow interns and employees all summer (including hackathons, community service, sporting events, and networking events).
"Being embedded into an engineering team gave me the opportunity to experience the software development lifecycle end-to-end through direct contributions to production systems and by working with various stakeholders. It was great to be able to regularly deploy code to production, monitor its impact and success, and roll back or roll forward if the changes were breaking."
—Rahul Dhir, Associate Software Engineer, WP Engine (former intern)

Project: High Five Wheel
Employees have always been encouraged to write good things about each other and post them on our high five wall. Once a month, these notes were collected into a basket and random selections would receive gift cards. As we grew, the high five wall went digital, but we lost the ability to randomly select winners each month.
This team of interns solved the problem with a hardware and software solution called the High Five Wheel. It integrates with our high five system and randomly generates numbers as it spins, then a winner's name is displayed on the screen when it stops. This project brought back much-needed suspense and spectacle to the high five winner selection process.

Project: Customer Facing API
Many of our customers and development partners want to be able to automate their workflows with their own tools. An API allowing functions currently only available in the User Portal would facilitate this automation.
Our interns devised a prototype API that had truncated ability to do the necessary authentication and authorization. It also had a single client that would ideally provide the desired outcome. They produced a suite of acceptance tests for all the developed endpoints. Finally, the interns completed the project with full documentation.

Project: Visitor guide to Austin
As a global business, we frequently have new hires and visitors from our international offices travel to our headquarters. Our goal is to make sure everyone who travels to Austin, Texas has a memorable and enjoyable visit.
Our People Operations Intern was tasked with figuring out a way to enhance the travel experience and decided to create a comprehensive “Visitor Guide to Austin”. This detailed guide contains information about local grocery stores, pharmacies, sightseeing opportunities, restaurants, and entertainment.
As soon as the project was completed, we began sending the document to every new employee who travels to Austin for orientation and have received many positive comments about how helpful it is. Her efforts have directly contributed to our Employee Experience initiatives and she was able to see the immediate impact of her hard work!
